PdT: What is the most important quality in a dance teacher?

August 31, 2010 · Posted by Tights and Tiaras ·
First of all, if you don’t already know, Pas de Trois is Catherine, David and my new playground for dance-interested. We want to create a forum for dance-folks to meet, discuss, share experiences and maybe some cookies too! Read more about the project here! So, to the question of the week: What, in my humble [...]

Shame me once, shame me twice…I deserve it

August 29, 2010 · Posted by You Dance Funny, So Does Me ·
Yesterday morning I went to see Mao’s Last Dancer with Karena.  Now I have to preface by saying with great humility that I have not read the book.  Normally, I’m one of those people that look at younglings, resist the urge to poke them with a stick and say “read the book, sonny boy!” (or for that matter, read A book…ANY book).  Back in Ohio I had gotten it from the library and added it to my fortress of borrowed items, but as any bookworm will tell you, we often bite off more than we can chew when it comes ...

Natalie Portman stars in the follow up to Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler and it's all about ballet.

Update and Pas De Deux

Hey everyone! I'm super excited because the Nutcracker season is coming up! My auditions are on September 12, when are yours? If I get a part it will be small because it's the state's official ballet company, and they let the academy be in parts like the party scene, or soliders. Anyways, I have this video I found on youtube from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, I found it enjoying, I hope you do to :) Oh, and if you have any requests or suggestions please leave a comment below or send me an email at chloeydances@gmail.com

Who is Your Favorite Dancer? – Pas de Trois

August 27, 2010 · Posted by Ballet for Men ·
This article is part of a collaboration project that I am working on with Henrik from Tights And Tiaras and Catherine from 4dancers. We are working together on “Pas de Trois” at dancing3.com. Each week we will present a question or issue pertaining to the dance world. We’ll foster a discussion on the topic and invite other people to join in with their ideas as well. We hope this will be a fun and engaging project that will help to create a stronger online dance community. You will be able to find the weekly question, along with links to the ...

What goes around comes around

So I’ve been in a bit of a shlump and was having an uninspired couple of weeks.  The best remedy for this is really to go back to the basics and go with what you know.  What do I know?  Manon.  I mean, I don’t know EVERYTHING about the ballet, but I know that it is by far my favorite full length ballet (keep that in mind kitties, there will be a pop quiz someday…) and I’m familiar with it to a point where I don’t need program notes or anything of the sort.  Instead of the usual goddess Rojo ...

The Darker Side of Dance

August 26, 2010 · Posted by This Momma Can Dance ·
In keeping with the start of the Halloween season, Darren Aronofsky’s (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) new film is called Black Swan. What happens when you marry ballet and horror? This does: I never thought I would ever say these words: ballet is creepy, geez. And what about the black feathers poking through her shoulders (shudder). I love Darren Aronofsky, and The Fountain is one of the most beautiful and sad movies ever made. I adore Natalie Portman as well. I will give this one a try!

Pas de Trois: Who is your favorite dancer?

August 25, 2010 · Posted by Tights and Tiaras ·
This weeks topic on Pas de Trois (@ dancing3.com) is “who is your favorite dancer”. That should be a fairly simple question to answer, shouldn’t it? No, it’s not! First of all, how can you compare them all up towards each other? Who is to say who is the better of gorgeous Russian half-swan Svetlana [...]

Legendary Ballet School to Close

August 24, 2010 · Posted by Dancing Perfectly Free ·
Irine Fokine, photo by Chris Peters for NorthJersey.com After more than sixty years, the Irine Fokine School of Ballet of Ridgewood, New Jersey is closing.  Founded by Fokine, the Russian-born daughter of Maryinsky Theater prima ballerina Alexandra Fedorova and the niece of choreographer Michel Fokine, the school was a mainstay of Ridgewood.  It also happens to be the school where I studied ballet intensively for many years, starting when I was seven.  I took my first point class and first partnering class there, and performed in my first of countless Nutcracker productions.  The environment at the school was strict, sometimes frighteningly ...
