i’ve posted these on facebook but for some reason never put them here….
everytime i put one of these sketches “out there” and especially HERE i realize that at least for now, this is my dancing.
i did make a little dance yesterday. and i even moved about a bit. but a part of me wonders if there will ever be a dancing life again.
for now….despite the fact that this is a “dancing” blog…..the sketches will have to suffice.

on a break from work. wanted to post this. have been trying to spend more time with my imagination on the weekends.

i bought an old canvas from goodwill a few months back. it was already painted. a still life. a chair, window, table. $1.00.
i painted over it with latex ceiling paint. the stuff that starts off lavender and then turns white. we had some extra cans in the basement and i didn’t feel like spending money on gesso or other stuff. i don’t know what i’m doing anyway so it seems appropriate to use what i have around the house to experiment with before i go and get “official” materials.

it’s monday and it’s snowing. the first snow fall of the season. this tree told me it would snow soon. i knew it last week when i took its photo.
so here’s the final version of this sketch. i think it will eventually be a very large painting.

like i said in the previous post, i don’t know where this will go.
but over the weekend i took out my sketch pad and pens and pencils and gave it a beginner’s try.
think i may have to get a bigger sketch pad or learn how to scale things properly. poor tree lost some of its stature in this doodle.

i’ve always wanted to be able to do something other than dance. express myself in some other medium. form.
so i doodle. so i scribble. so i slosh paint around my basement. each time forgiving myself for the mess i make and the total silliness that results.
i write and it feels right but to skilled writers it must sound like nonsense. awkwardly constructed and just bad.
i paint and it does not feel right but i do it anyway.
i doodle and i know that all i’m capable of is squiggly lines and cartoonish flatness. not even good cartoonish flatness.
