New Music Mondays: Using iTunes to Make Class Playlists
August 23, 2010 · Posted by The Dance Buzz ·
As a dance teacher in the twenty-first century, you can carry thousands of songs in your pocket. However, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Or in our case - at least organize it!At my studio, I have many teachers who opt for CDs over iPods because scrolling through hundreds of songs to find the perfect tempo for their tap class wastes time and is too frustrating to deal with during class. And what happens when you forget to take it off shuffle and dance music suddenly crosses over with your 'personal' music and you have a taste for raunchy ...
Crossing the Line 2010
August 23, 2010 · Posted by Dancing Perfectly Free ·
Once again, the lineup for FIAF’s annual Crossing the Line festival looks fantastic. The offerings include performances by Raimund Houghe, Farm City’s fair, film, and tour celebrating urban agriculture, a site-specific performance of the play Hetero, Willi Dorner’s Bodies in Urban Spaces at sunrise and sunset, and a conversation with Philip Glass and Matthieu Ricard on contemplation and creativity. The festival opens September 10th. Watch the nifty little trailer and get excited.
Artie and His Safety Dance

I LOVE Glee. I was in choirs and show choirs and musicals my whole young life through Middle School and High School and we never did anything close to what they do on this show. What I wouldn’t have done to have a rock band available every day for choir practice (who wouldn’t).
Since the premise of the show is a glee club in High School, it’s easy to segue into the musical numbers. Most of them are super fun. But this one was extra special.
Towards the end of the second season there is a storyline about Artie (played by the ...

It takes four or five to tango
August 17, 2010 · Posted by The Winger ·
The first time I fell in love with tango it was at City Center in New York, arguably a hyper-stylized somewhat lyricized version danced by Julio Bocca and his Ballet Argentino - a sexy and whirlwind two hours called BoccaTango in which Julio partnered women, ladders, men and tables, all with equal eroticism.
The second time I fell in love with tango it was at Cafe Tortoni in Buenos Aires, the legendary coffee house on Avenida de Mayo with an intimate theater space toward the back where waiters seduce you with Piazzolla and cocktails as you watch a tango show at ...
