protest flash mobs: boycott! boycott! workers rights are hot!
August 30, 2010 · Posted by Widening the I ·
Flash mobs have been getting no shortage of attention recently as a phenomenon. Frequently they’re being used to shill products (Nokia, MS Office 2010, seriously, we’re supposed to believe that people are so excited by new Microsoft products that they’re dancing in the streets?) or hype a TV show (Oprah, Glee). More appealing to me are those that celebrate the sheer joy of moving in a group (like the recent flash mobs organized by Dance/MetroDC) or that are being used to creatively call attention to an issue: the flash mob as protest. Here are three examples that ...

Update and Pas De Deux

Hey everyone! I'm super excited because the Nutcracker season is coming up! My auditions are on September 12, when are yours? If I get a part it will be small because it's the state's official ballet company, and they let the academy be in parts like the party scene, or soliders. Anyways, I have this video I found on youtube from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, I found it enjoying, I hope you do to :) Oh, and if you have any requests or suggestions please leave a comment below or send me an email at chloeydances@gmail.com

August 17, 2010 · Posted by The Winger ·
The first time I fell in love with tango it was at City Center in New York, arguably a hyper-stylized somewhat lyricized version danced by Julio Bocca and his Ballet Argentino - a sexy and whirlwind two hours called BoccaTango in which Julio partnered women, ladders, men and tables, all with equal eroticism.
The second time I fell in love with tango it was at Cafe Tortoni in Buenos Aires, the legendary coffee house on Avenida de Mayo with an intimate theater space toward the back where waiters seduce you with Piazzolla and cocktails as you watch a tango show at ...
Trees
August 17, 2010 · Posted by Survival Guide for Dancers ·
My ballet class started yesterday! My teacher wanted to start out slow, which was agonizing, but besides that she said the funniest analogies. One of them was like "Your supporting leg is a tree trunk and your working leg the branches. When the wind blows the trunk doesn't move, but the branches do." I guess that's supposed to make me understand better? Why can't she just say that I need to keep my hips in line and keep the weight on my supporting leg? But hey, who I am I to correct her. This is it for now, I have loads ...
